The Languages of Gears Atelier investigates the phenomena of mechanics, the motion of bodies and the many laws of physics that govern them.
The project was born through collaboration between Reggio Children and Comer Industries.
This Atelier can be seen at the Loris Malaguzzi International Centre
Assembling and dismantling, mounting and measuring, meeting different materials: the Atelier of Gears creates dialogue between the two apparently different universes of education and industry, meeting here to create a complex interdisciplinary journey that brings together the competences of Comer Industries engineers and the experience of Reggio Children.
Constructing creative action that moves forward through hypotheses, a 'practice' of imagination and intelligence in which strategies and processes are actuated and made visible. This is the capacity to experiment by connecting action with thinking, and combining known concepts in new ways.
In this place adults and children dialogue with artefacts capable of revealing their own beauty, and perceive the laws of physics underlying the creative processes that have generated them.
An atelier for discovering how mechanics works - from the inside.
