Children as human beings, possess a hundred languages: a hundred ways of thinking, expressing, understanding, of encountering otherness through a way of thinking that weaves together and does not separate the various dimensions of experience. The hundred languages are a metaphor for the extraordinary potentials of children, their knowledge-building and creative processes, the myriad forms with which life is manifested and knowledge is constructed. It is the responsibility of the infant-toddler centre and the preschool to valorise all verbal and non-verbal languages with equal dignity.

This journey is an opportunity to explore the theory of the 100 languages and culture of the atelier by watching and studying 4 on-demand webinars and participating in 2 live moments with pedagogistas and teachers from Reggio Emilia.

In the webinars, teachers and pedagogistas will discuss the topic of the 100 languages by using extensive documentation material collected during their daily experience in the infant-toddler centres and preschools of the Municipality of Reggio Emilia.

The 2 live moments will complement the content of the webinars:

  • you will be able to ask questions about the experiences seen in the webinars
  • you will be able to review and explore some of the aspects covered in the webinars
  • you can gather further insights through other presentations on the topic.

EBOOK

  • The 1st ebook in the Fragments series dedicated to the writings of Loris Malaguzzi, Commentaries for a code to reading the exhibition. This first volume brings together the "commentaries" for the exhibition "The Hundred Languages of Children" in its two versions (realized in 1981 and 1987), suggesting a series of reflections that formed then, and continues to form now, the foundation of the educational project in Reggio Emilia's infant-toddler centres and preschools.
